Rabcat, the game studio, has not cashed in the Universal Pictures licence to make a game about the legendary Van Helsing, the hero of the Hugh Jackman film of the same name. She developed a new game whose protagonist Anna is his distant relative, who hunts the main vampire Count Dracula.
The game turned out to be mediocre, it cannot be put on a par with such famous representatives of the genre as Microgaming or Immortal Romance. The visuals aren’t bad, but the developers didn’t manage to create the atmosphere that would captivate the players.
There’s no maximum 1500x winnings involved, and it’s also worth noting that some of the “wild” features aren’t very interesting, even when the bonus game is triggered. Three wild symbols are available:
Wild Howling Wolf.
Wild Van Helsing.
Wild Dracula.
The highest paying of these is the wild wolf. As for the other symbols, they are not paid directly, but only trigger certain functions. If you get 5 wild wolves on a payline, the winnings will be x30 of the current bet. The wild symbols, as in most cases, replace the usual pay symbols.
When a VanHelsingwild symbol appears on the first, second or third reel, it will expand to cover the entire reel.
The player is then given 1 bonus spin. During this spin, extended jokers are activated. The probability of a wolf jungle roll is increased. If this happens, the wolf attack feature is activated when the wild wolf expands to cover the entire reel.
If 3 blood moon scatters fall anywhere, the bonus game is activated. The user will receive 8 free spins and each of their winnings will be multiplied by two. When Dracula reaches the third reel, the Dracula Exile feature will be triggered.
The wild Dracula will then begin to expand across the entire reel and turn into an expanded wild Van Helsing. The wolf’s head, coffin, book and wild wolf symbols will also turn into unexpanded wild jokers. Dracula may expand or land on other reels, but the feature will not activate.
We’ve had Van Helsing’s Expanded Joker fall out a few times and it’s been a great help in the main game. We’ve also had quite a few dead spins fall out. At 1:54 of the video the bonus round starts, you can appreciate the highlights of the bonus game.
We also managed to trigger the “Exorcise Dracula” feature once. Run the video replay to see for yourself how much we got away with.
Rabkat is notable for its distinctive design style, which is also evident in Anna Van Helsing: Monster Huntress. But the pluses end there; the mathematical model leaves much to be desired. The game could have been much more interesting. The main game is a grind, where wins are not very frequent and not very big. A wolf attack can theoretically increase the main bet by a factor of 750. This requires the wild symbols to fill the entire reel.
The bonus game is not very interesting either. There is a lack of expectation of something great, some kind of event. If you are a fan of horror, it is unlikely that you will like this game. Van Helsing’s Book of the Undead would be more interesting, as Rabcat’s product was cheesy.
